Mentoring at MMTMC does not begin with a checklist. It begins with an attitude. A genuine willingness to walk alongside a newer member, to celebrate their first prepared speech, and to stay in their corner when the nerves hit.
You do not need to be the most polished speaker in the room. You do not need every award or every level completed. The mentors who matter most are not always the most decorated. They are the ones who show up, who care, and who make someone feel they belong.
If that sounds like you, you are already most of the way there.

The path
Every mentor in MMTMC walked a path to get here. It is the same path open to you, one natural step at a time.

You found a community. You spoke, you stumbled, you grew, and you found your voice in a room that wanted you to win.

You stepped up to serve. You learned how the club really runs, and discovered that leading others grows you faster than leading only yourself.

You turn your experience outward. You guide newer members through their journey, raise the standard of evaluations, and become someone a member remembers for life. This is where you become a pillar of the club.

Why mentor
Mentoring is not a favour you do for the club. It is one of the fastest ways to grow yourself.
You master it by teaching it.Nothing sharpens your own speaking and evaluation like guiding someone else through theirs.
You build real leadership.Patience, feedback, reading people, and drawing out their best are skills that compound in every part of life and work.
You leave a legacy.Members forget most meetings. They never forget the person who believed in them first.
You belong more deeply.Mentoring is where MMTMC stops feeling like a club and starts feeling like family.
You strengthen the club.Every mentor we grow makes MMTMC deeper, warmer, and more resilient for the next generation. More mentors means more mastery, and more mastery means a stronger MMTMC.
In practice
Most weeks, mentoring is simpler than it sounds. You guide a mentee through their first projects, at their pace, in their corner.
You give evaluations that are specific, kind, and genuinely useful. You notice the small wins before anyone else does, and you stay long enough to watch them grow.
What we look for
Because mentoring shapes how new members experience the club, we do look for a little foundation. Not a long list. Just enough to know you have already walked the road you are about to guide someone down.
The application itself will ask a little more about your contests, your Pathways progress, and your evaluations. None of it is a gate, so answer honestly, even if some of the answers are "no". We are not waiting for a full trophy cabinet or a perfect record. We would rather grow a willing mentor than hold out for a flawless one, so if the heart is there, put your hand up anyway.

The questions below ask about your journey so far and why you want to mentor. There are no right or wrong answers, so simply answer honestly, including where the answer is "no".

Once you submit, a Club Advisor will reach out for a short, warm conversation to understand your readiness and whether mentoring is the right fit for you at this stage.
